Claude Code for Developers: Mastery — Automating Engineering with Claude Code

The expert level for engineers who run Claude Code for a whole team: share settings, skills and subagents through the repository, enforce policy with managed settings and hooks, package and distribute plugins through a team marketplace, run Claude Code headless and in GitHub Actions with least privilege, build on it with the Agent SDK, defend against prompt injection, and measure cost and quality from real runs. Ends with an automated team workflow capstone.

What this course covers

The course runs across 12 topics, each one a short adaptive session rather than a recorded lecture. The tutor explains the idea, works an example, checks understanding, and adjusts the next step to the answer given.

  • Setting Claude Code up for a team — Commit shared settings, layered CLAUDE.md files, project skills and custom subagents to the repository so every engineer starts the same way, and keep personal preferences in user or local settings.
  • Policy that cannot be overridden: managed settings — Admins deploy managed settings to every machine or from the console, and nothing at user or project level overrides them. Learners choose which controls to lock, such as turning off bypass mode, approved marketplaces only and an MCP server allowlist.
  • Skills for team workflows — Package a repeatable workflow as a SKILL.md with a clear description, pre-approved tools and, for side-effect workflows, manual invocation only. Learners decide when a skill should run in a forked subagent.
  • Subagents and parallel work — Define custom subagents for focused jobs such as read-only exploration or review, run work in parallel, and remember that rewind may not restore a subagent's edits, so git stays the safety net.
  • Hooks as guardrails — Write a PreToolUse hook that blocks dangerous commands with a reason, add a PostToolUse formatter, check them with /hooks, and back every hook with deny rules because judgment calls still need permissions.
  • Plugins and a team marketplace — Bundle skills, subagents, hooks and MCP servers into a plugin, publish it in a team marketplace and enable it at project scope. Learners review what any plugin installs before trusting it.
  • Headless Claude Code in scripts and CI — Run claude -p with --bare for reproducible runs, narrow --allowedTools or dontAsk mode, --max-turns and JSON output a script can check, with keys from the secret store and no pushing to protected branches.
  • Claude Code in GitHub Actions — Set up anthropics/claude-code-action for @claude requests and scheduled or event-driven prompts, pass options through claude_args, and limit who can trigger runs and what the job may change.
  • Building on Claude Code with the Agent SDK — Use the Agent SDK in Python or TypeScript to run the same agent loop inside your own tools, with tool approval in code, structured output and your own logging.
  • Security: prompt injection and untrusted repositories — Treat repository files, issues and tool output as untrusted input. Learners see why headless runs in unfamiliar repositories should use --bare, sandboxed Bash and least privilege, and why humans review every agent pull request.
  • Measuring cost and quality — Track usage with analytics and monitoring, read cost estimates from JSON output, and test skills and plugins with evals on real tasks rather than guessing.
  • Capstone: an automated, governed team workflow — Automate one team workflow end to end: a shared skill or plugin, a guardrail hook with deny-rule backstop, a least-privilege CI job, the managed settings it relies on, and a measured cost and quality note.

Skills you build

Results are measured against named skills in the OneRange taxonomy of more than 10,000 skills, so a manager sees proficiency per skill rather than a completion tick.

Who it is for

Senior developers, platform and developer-experience teams. The material is pitched at expert level, and takes roughly 180 minutes at a typical pace. Because every session adapts, someone who already knows a topic moves through it quickly instead of sitting through an explanation they do not need.

It sits in the Tool: Claude track of the Vero AI Catalog, and can be assigned to one person, a team, or the whole company.

How it is delivered and assessed

Delivery is conversational and interactive, including guided lab, branching scenario, code lab exercises. There is no video to sit through and no slide deck to click past.

Understanding is checked with a tool assessment of 5 items, with a pass mark of 70%.

Administrators can copy this course into their own library and adapt it — edit the outline, change the duration, swap the assessment format, or ground it in internal documentation so answers cite the company's own source material.

Learners build and share plugins, run skill libraries, evaluate connectors, set governance and approval policies, roll Cowork out function by function, monitor usage and outcomes, and handle incidents — finishing with a plugin and rollout plan for a real team.
  • Claude Code for Everyone: Mastery — Owning Team Tools — The expert level for business builders whose Claude Code tools other people now depend on, built on the 4Ds of AI fluency: Delegation, Description, Discernment and Diligence. Learners decide what belongs in Claude Code, in Claude chat or with engineers, write specs Claude Code and an engineer can both follow, run a small portfolio of tools with saved skills and schedules, review what Claude Code produces, and work with IT on data, access and approved settings. They finish by measuring impact honestly and leading adoption on their team. No code.
  • Claude: Mastery — Leading Work with Claude — The expert level for experienced Claude users in any role, built on the 4Ds of AI fluency: Delegation, Description, Discernment and Diligence.
