What's New in Claude Code
A short refresher on the latest Claude Code updates
What this course covers
The course runs across 7 topics, each one a short adaptive session rather than a recorded lecture. The tutor explains the idea, works an example, checks understanding, and adjusts the next step to the answer given.
- A new Opus model is now the default — What's different: A new Opus model was added and made the default Opus, and Pro and Team Standard plans now start on Opus instead of Sonnet. Why it matters for your work: Most people now get Anthropic's stronger everyday model without changing a setting, which helps on harder tasks. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open the model picker (type /model in the terminal, or use the model menu in the app) and check which model is selected. No access? Here's what you'd see: The model picker displays the selected Opus model.
- Make designs, decks and docs from Claude Code — What's different: You can now ask for a design, a slide deck or a living document in any conversation, including in Claude Code, and then edit it with Claude or by hand. Why it matters for your work: You can turn your work into something to share, like a one-page summary or a short deck, without leaving Claude Code. Try it (about 2 minutes): Ask Claude Code: "Make a one-page doc that explains what this project does," then open the result and change one line yourself. No access? Here's what you'd see: A document file containing the project explanation opens on the screen.
- A new, faster Sonnet model — What's different: A new Sonnet model was released as a faster, lower-cost partner to the new Opus model. Why it matters for your work: Sonnet is a good pick for quick, everyday tasks when you do not need Opus. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open the model picker, choose Sonnet, ask for a small change, then switch back to Opus if you prefer. No access? Here's what you'd see: A model picker menu displays options for Sonnet and Opus.
- Your claude.ai skills and plugins sync to the terminal — What's different: Skills and plugins you turn on in your claude.ai account now show up in terminal sessions signed in with that account. Why it matters for your work: You set up a skill once and can use it everywhere, without copying files between apps. Try it (about 2 minutes): Sign in to Claude Code with your claude.ai account, type /skills, and look for a skill you turned on at claude.ai. No access? Here's what you'd see: The terminal displays a list of active skills and plugins synced from the account.
- Concise style for shorter replies — What's different: A built-in Concise output style makes Claude lead with the result and skip the step-by-step narration, while doing the same work. Why it matters for your work: Replies are quicker to read when you only need to know what was done. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open /config, find Output style, pick Concise, then ask Claude a question and compare the reply to before. No access? Here's what you'd see: The configuration menu displays an Output style option with Concise selected.
- Also new — - Fast mode switch in web sessions: Claude Code on the web now features a Fast mode switch in the model menu. - A new top-tier Fable model: A new version of the advanced Fable model family has been released and made the default.
- Try one on your own work — Pick the one main change from this course that is most useful to your job. Try it in your own Claude Code on a real task, then paste or describe what you got. The coach gives short, specific feedback. No access to the app or plan it needs? Describe how you would use it on a real task this week. That counts too. There is no score and no pass or fail: finishing this completes the course.
Skills you build
Results are measured against named skills in the OneRange taxonomy of more than 10,000 skills, so a manager sees proficiency per skill rather than a completion tick.
Who it is for
The material is pitched at intermediate level, and takes roughly 20 minutes at a typical pace. Because every session adapts, someone who already knows a topic moves through it quickly instead of sitting through an explanation they do not need.
It sits in the Tool: Claude track of the Vero AI Catalog, and can be assigned to one person, a team, or the whole company.
How it is delivered and assessed
Delivery is conversational and interactive. There is no video to sit through and no slide deck to click past.
Understanding is checked with a lab assessment, with a pass mark of 70%.
Administrators can copy this course into their own library and adapt it — edit the outline, change the duration, swap the assessment format, or ground it in internal documentation so answers cite the company's own source material.
