Gemini for Developers: Essentials — Testing Playbook
A focused playbook for testing with Gemini. Learners use the Gemini app to write unit and edge-case tests for untested code, diagnose a failing test and a flaky one, and prove that a test really guards the behaviour instead of just passing. They leave with a repeatable prompt pattern for tests they can trust. About 45 minutes including the final.
What this course covers
The course runs across 3 topics, each one a short adaptive session rather than a recorded lecture. The tutor explains the idea, works an example, checks understanding, and adjusts the next step to the answer given.
- Tests from the rules, not from the code — Give Gemini the written rules, the code and the test framework, and ask for unit tests plus boundary and invalid-input cases whose expected values come from the rules. Learners check each expected value by hand, because tests generated from buggy code lock the bug in.
- Failing and flaky tests: fix the right thing — Learners paste the test output and ask Gemini whether the test or the code breaks the rule before any fix, and decide what to do when a teammate wants to delete a test that has been red for a week. They spot hidden dependencies such as the current time and replace them with fixed inputs so the test gives the same result on every run.
- Does the test really guard the behaviour? — Learners find weak assertions and run a mutation check: break the code on purpose, or ask Gemini to predict the result, and see whether the test fails. They tighten the test to exact expected values and label which results were run and which were only predicted.
Skills you build
Results are measured against named skills in the OneRange taxonomy of more than 10,000 skills, so a manager sees proficiency per skill rather than a completion tick.
Who it is for
Software developers. The material is pitched at beginner level, and takes roughly 45 minutes at a typical pace. Because every session adapts, someone who already knows a topic moves through it quickly instead of sitting through an explanation they do not need.
It sits in the Tool: Gemini track of the Vero AI Catalog, and can be assigned to one person, a team, or the whole company.
How it is delivered and assessed
Delivery is conversational and interactive, including code lab, branching scenario exercises. There is no video to sit through and no slide deck to click past.
Understanding is checked with a lab assessment of 5 items, with a pass mark of 70%.
Administrators can copy this course into their own library and adapt it — edit the outline, change the duration, swap the assessment format, or ground it in internal documentation so answers cite the company's own source material.

- Gemini: Essentials — Data & Analysis Playbook — A focused playbook for doing data and analysis work in Gemini. Learners run real tasks end to end - data cleanup, analysis, charts, and interpretation - and leave with repeatable workflows they can use the same day. About 45 minutes including the final.
- Gemini for Developers: Essentials — Refactoring & Migration Playbook — A focused playbook for safe refactoring and migration with Gemini. Learners pin down what legacy code must keep doing, rename and extract functions in small behaviour-preserving steps, then move off deprecated Python date helpers without breaking the nightly job. They leave with a step-by-step refactor plan and the habit of checking what the tests do not cover. About 45 minutes including the final.
- Gemini: Essentials — Everyday Work — This course applies Gemini to everyday knowledge work: email, documents, meeting prep, and quick research. Learners practice each workflow directly in Gemini and leave with daily habits, not just features.
- Gemini: Intro — An absolute-baseline introduction to Google Gemini for first-time users. Learners see what Gemini is, how to open it (including inside Google Workspace), and how to send their first prompt. It gets total beginners started in minutes. About 30 minutes including the final.
- Gemini: Essentials — Coding Playbook — A focused playbook for doing coding work in Gemini. Learners run real tasks end to end - code generation, explanation, debugging, and review - and leave with repeatable workflows they can use the same day. About 45 minutes including the final.
- Gemini for Developers Pathway — Gemini for developers from coding in Gemini chat to the Antigravity CLI and Google Antigravity, agentic engineering, and guarded production integrations on the Gemini API and AI Studio. Also includes 4 optional playbooks (Testing, Code Review, Refactoring & Migration, Docs & Onboarding) to take any time after Essentials; they don't count toward the certificate.
