1. What a pathway is
A program of courses people finish as one
A pathway is a set of courses assigned together, such as new-hire onboarding, a role-readiness track, or an AI fluency program. People see it on My Training as one group with X/Y completed. You can attach a badge that is awarded automatically when they finish, and let experienced people test out of courses they already know.
Pathways live on Courses, Pathways tab. Admins and Course Managers create them.
2. Creating a pathway
Name, order, and courses
- Click Create Pathway. Give it a Pathway Name and a Description.
- Choose the Course Order. Strict Order: each course unlocks after the previous one is done. Any Order: a grouping with no order implied. Any Order is the default.
- In the pathway editor, add courses from Available courses. You can add your own courses and Vero AI Catalog courses directly.
- Drag courses to set the sequence. Click the order badge to switch between Strict and Any Order.
- Optionally add a badge and turn on Allow Test-Out.
- Click Assign Pathway.
Tip: Use Strict Order when later courses build on earlier ones, such as foundations before advanced practice. Use Any Order when the courses stand alone.
3. Import Career Track
Build a pathway from a role document
Have a competency framework or career ladder document? On the Pathways tab, click Import Career Track (desktop). Set the From Role and To Role, upload the document, and click Extract Competencies. Review, reorder, and remove competencies, then customize each course's target proficiency, duration, context notes, and reference documents. Generate All Curricula, then Publish N Courses & Pathway. Vero creates one course per competency and the pathway that holds them.
4. Vero AI Catalog pathways
Ready-made pathways built by OneRange
Filter the Pathways tab to Vero AI Catalog to see OneRange's pathways. Each shows its level, hours, courses, capstone, and the credential it awards. Assign it as it is. Catalog pathways cannot be edited, but Admins can turn on test-out for their own company without changing the shared pathway.
5. Allowing test-out
Let people skip what they already know
In the pathway editor, turn on Allow Test-Out. People can then take a timed placement assessment for a course in the pathway. Passing marks the course complete and counts toward the pathway credential.
| Pass mark override (%) | Leave blank to use each course's own pass mark (70% by default), or set one for the whole pathway. |
|---|---|
| Attempts per course | 1 to 5. The default is 1. |
| Strict Order pathways | Test-out is offered only for the course a person is currently on. |
| Format | Each test-out uses the course's own final assessment format, is timed, and is harder than the normal final. |
When someone uses up their attempts, they can request a retake. Admins see a Retake requested badge on Employees and grant another attempt with Grant retake. Test-outs count as complete but add no training minutes to reports.
6. Credit for work already done
No one repeats a course they passed
When you assign a pathway that contains a course someone has already completed and passed, Vero credits it immediately and marks it Completed Previously. If they are partway through the course, their progress carries into the pathway.
7. Managing an assigned pathway
Progress, reminders, and changes
- Assigned Employees in the pathway editor shows each person's progress.
- Use the bell to remind one person, or Remind all incomplete to nudge everyone who has not finished.
- Unassign removes a person's pending items. Unassign All removes items that have not started and keeps courses already in progress or completed.
- Feedback opens the ratings people left for the pathway. View Training Performance opens its analytics.
- Company Visibility controls whether other managers and admins can see the pathway.
8. Assessment groups
Several skill assessments assigned together
An assessment group bundles two or more skill assessments so they are assigned as one, such as a baseline across several AI skills. Create them on Skill Assessments, Groups tab, with Create Group. They use the same Strict or Any Order setting as course pathways. Test-out applies to course pathways only.
9. Company badges
Your own credentials, issued by your organization
Company badges are credentials your company issues. They appear only inside your workspace.
- In the pathway editor, click Create Badge. Or go to Company Settings, Badges, and click New Badge.
- Upload your own artwork (PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP, under 2 MB, 512 by 512 recommended) or choose a Shield, Star, Ribbon, or Laurel design tinted with your brand color.
- Give it a Name and a Description.
- Save. The badge is attached to that pathway.
- Each badge belongs to one pathway.
- When a badge is attached, people who already finished the pathway receive it automatically.
- Editing a badge's name or image updates it for everyone who already earned it.
- Deleting a badge keeps the record for people who earned it.
10. How credentials are earned
What completion means
A person earns the pathway's credential when every course is completed and every final assessment passed (test-outs and prior credit count), and every assessment in the pathway is submitted. They see a Credential earned message, and it appears under Certifications on their profile and in their timeline.
Track credentials on the Dashboard (Credentials Earned and Recently Earned Credentials) and on Training Performance (Credentials Issued).
11. Designing pathways that get finished
Patterns that work
- Aim for four to six courses. Longer programs are better split into two pathways or run as a program.
- Put a short win first, such as a 30-minute Essentials course, before the hands-on work.
- Turn on test-out for mixed-experience groups.
- Attach a badge people will want to show. Name it for the capability, such as AI-Ready Account Executive.
- Use start dates to release a long pathway in waves.
12. Common questions
Quick answers
Can I use catalog courses in my own pathway?
Yes. Add them directly from Available courses in the pathway editor, alongside your own courses.
What happens if I add a course to a pathway someone already finished?
They get credit straight away, marked Completed Previously.
Can a badge be attached to more than one pathway?
No. Each badge belongs to one pathway. Create a separate badge for each program you want to credential.
