What's New in Perplexity
A short refresher on the latest Perplexity updates
What this course covers
The course runs across 7 topics, each one a short adaptive session rather than a recorded lecture. The tutor explains the idea, works an example, checks understanding, and adjusts the next step to the answer given.
- Spaces are now Projects — What's different: Spaces became Projects, which keep your sessions, Computer tasks, files, instructions and connected tools in one shared workspace, and every existing Space moved over automatically. Why it matters for your work: Your old research collections are still there under a new name, and teammates can now work from the same files and history. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open Projects in the sidebar, find one of your old Spaces, and check its files and instructions in the Project's settings. No access? Here's what you'd see: A Projects panel opens in the sidebar showing your migrated Spaces and their settings.
- Microsoft 365 work files in Ask — What's different: Pro, Max and Enterprise users can connect a Microsoft 365 work or school account in Ask on desktop web to search SharePoint and OneDrive and read Excel workbooks. Why it matters for your work: You can research across your company's own files and the web in one answer, without copying files in by hand. Try it (about 2 minutes): Connect Microsoft 365, then ask: "@Microsoft 365 find the newest planning document in my OneDrive and list the open decisions." Needs: a Pro, Max or Enterprise plan. No access? Here's what you'd see: The response displays the open decisions from the OneDrive planning document.
- Effort setting for Computer tasks — What's different: Computer has an effort setting with Light, Standard, High and Ultra levels, so Perplexity picks the model and reasoning depth for you. Why it matters for your work: You can use a lighter level for routine work and save the deepest level for hard research and decisions. Try it (about 2 minutes): Start a Computer task, set effort to Light, and ask it to organize a list of sources into a table; then try High on a harder question. No access? Here's what you'd see: An effort setting menu appears showing Light, Standard, High, and Ultra options to choose from.
- Automations replace Scheduled Tasks — What's different: Computer now has Automations that run work on a schedule or when something happens in Slack, Gmail, Outlook, Linear or GitHub, and they replace Scheduled Tasks. Why it matters for your work: Recurring research, like a weekly competitor check, can now build on the last run and flag what changed instead of starting over. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open Automations in Computer, choose New Automation, and set up a weekly summary of news on a topic you follow. No access? Here's what you'd see: An Automations panel opens showing a New Automation button to set up scheduled tasks.
- Old Windows desktop app stopped working — What's different: The old Perplexity Windows app stopped working on October 15, 2026, and older Mac and Windows apps do not upgrade to the new app on their own. Why it matters for your work: If you use the desktop app at work, you need the new app to keep going, and your Projects and sessions are still there. Try it (about 2 minutes): Install the new app from perplexity.ai/platforms, sign in with the same account, check your work is there, then remove the old app. Needs: the Perplexity desktop app. No access? Here's what you'd see: The old Windows app no longer opens; you'd install the new Perplexity desktop app.
- Also new — - Org Files search source retired: The Org Files search source has been retired, requiring users to move shared files to Projects. - Ask before a connector takes action: Users can now set connector tools to require approval before taking actions in external apps. - Wiley journals and books as a source: Perplexity and Computer can now search and cite Wiley journals and books across all plans. - Search your past work with Cmd+K: Users can now press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K to quickly search and reopen past sessions and tasks. - Side Chat for quick questions during a task: Users can now open a read-only side chat during a running Computer task to ask quick questions. - Skills Marketplace for Computer: A new Skills Marketplace allows users to browse, install, and share reusable skills for Computer. - Computer works from your email: Users can now start Computer tasks and receive results directly by emailing [email protected]. - Run Computer fully on your Mac: Computer can now run tasks locally on Macs with Apple silicon to protect sensitive files. - New Gemini model for Pro and Max: A new Google Gemini model is now available in Computer and Search for paid subscribers. - Charts and visuals inside Computer: Computer can now generate interactive charts, 3D models, and visual explanations directly inside your thread. - and 1 more: Reusable agents in the Agent API
- Try one on your own work — Pick the one main change from this course that is most useful to your job. Try it in your own Perplexity on a real task, then paste or describe what you got. The coach gives short, specific feedback. No access to the app or plan it needs? Describe how you would use it on a real task this week. That counts too. There is no score and no pass or fail: finishing this completes the course.
Skills you build
Results are measured against named skills in the OneRange taxonomy of more than 10,000 skills, so a manager sees proficiency per skill rather than a completion tick.
