What's New in Adobe Firefly

A short refresher on the latest Adobe Firefly updates

What this course covers

The course runs across 7 topics, each one a short adaptive session rather than a recorded lecture. The tutor explains the idea, works an example, checks understanding, and adjusts the next step to the answer given.

  • Make music, voiceovers and sound effects — What's different: On August 20, Generate Music, Generate Speech and Generate Sound Effects became generally available in Firefly, so you can make original audio from a text prompt, a script or an uploaded video. Why it matters for your work: You can add a soundtrack, narration or sound effect to a video or presentation without hunting for licensed audio, and Adobe builds its own Firefly audio models to be commercially safe. Try it (about 2 minutes): On the Firefly home page, open Audio and choose Generate music. Upload a short video or pick a vibe, style and energy, generate, and play two or three of the tracks.
  • Remove the background from a video clip — What's different: In Timeline (beta), Remove background finds the people or objects in a clip and removes the background through the whole clip, with no frame-by-frame masking. Why it matters for your work: You can drop a speaker or product onto a clean or branded background for a social clip or slide in minutes. Try it (about 2 minutes): Go to the Video tool, choose the option to edit multi-track video, add a short clip, and turn on the background removal option. No access? Here's what you'd see: In Timeline (beta), a Remove background option appears in the Properties panel when a video clip is selected.
  • Generations: one place to make and edit — What's different: A new Generations area (beta) puts image and video generation, editing, projects, files and your generation history in a single workspace. Why it matters for your work: You can generate an image, fix it, turn it into a video and keep it in a project without jumping between separate pages. Try it (about 2 minutes): Select Generations in the left menu, type a prompt, switch between Image and Video in the prompt bar, then open a result to see the prompt, model and settings that made it. No access? Here's what you'd see: Selecting Generations in the left menu opens a workspace with image and video generation, editing, projects, files, and generation history.
  • Longer prompts for images and video — What's different: Firefly on the web now accepts much longer prompts for image and video generation, though Boards still uses the shorter length for now. Why it matters for your work: You can put a whole creative brief into one prompt instead of splitting the idea across several tries. Try it (about 2 minutes): Open Generate image and paste a detailed brief with subject, setting, lighting, colors and what to leave out, then compare the result with a one-line version.
  • Record your screen and webcam in Timeline — What's different: The new Record video option in Timeline (beta) captures a browser tab, app window or whole screen, plus your webcam and voice, straight onto the timeline. Why it matters for your work: You can make a how-to or product walkthrough video and edit it in one place. Try it (about 2 minutes): In the media panel, select the option to add, then record video, turn on the screen recorder and webcam, and record. No access? Here's what you'd see: A new Record video option appears under Add in the Project media panel, allowing learners to record their screen and webcam.
  • Also new — - New Google video model takes video and audio input: Google's Gemini Omni Flash model is now available in Firefly, accepting multi-modal inputs. - Auto reframe videos for each social size: Timeline (beta) can now automatically reframe videos for different aspect ratios while tracking the subject. - Record voiceovers right in the timeline: Timeline (beta) now lets users record voiceovers directly over videos or images. - AI Assistant opens to free accounts: Firefly AI Assistant (beta) is now available to free accounts with new creative skills. - Left menu navigation updates: The left sidebar menu now includes Discover, Timeline (beta), and Custom models, integrating Generations into Files. - Run batch jobs from simple interfaces: Firefly Creative Production for enterprise now lets experts publish simple interfaces for running batch jobs. - More aspect ratios for the GPT Image model: The GPT Image partner model now offers ten aspect ratios instead of three on the web. - Admins can switch off Firefly AI Assistant: Enterprise admins can now turn Firefly-powered AI assistants on or off for the entire organization. - Photoshop adds a simpler AI Assisted Editor: Photoshop on desktop added an AI Assisted Editor (beta) with a prompt bar and Firefly-powered tools. - Use Firefly tools inside Gemini: Gemini chats can now access tools from Firefly, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Express to edit photos.
  • Try one on your own work — Pick the one main change from this course that is most useful to your job. Try it in your own Adobe Firefly on a real task, then paste or describe what you got. The coach gives short, specific feedback. No access to the app or plan it needs? Describe how you would use it on a real task this week. That counts too. There is no score and no pass or fail: finishing this completes the course.

Skills you build

Results are measured against named skills in the OneRange taxonomy of more than 10,000 skills, so a manager sees proficiency per skill rather than a completion tick.

Who it is for

The material is pitched at intermediate level, and takes roughly 20 minutes at a typical pace. Because every session adapts, someone who already knows a topic moves through it quickly instead of sitting through an explanation they do not need.

It sits in the Tool: Adobe Firefly track of the Vero AI Catalog, and can be assigned to one person, a team, or the whole company.

How it is delivered and assessed

Delivery is conversational and interactive. There is no video to sit through and no slide deck to click past.

Understanding is checked with a lab assessment, with a pass mark of 70%.

Administrators can copy this course into their own library and adapt it — edit the outline, change the duration, swap the assessment format, or ground it in internal documentation so answers cite the company's own source material.
